Siem Reap - Battambang (Boat Trip)

We had an amazing boat trip from Siem Reap to Battambang. What we first thought would be a tough trip turned out to be very enjoyable.

Angkor (Siem Reap), Cambodia - Day 3

On the third and last day at Angkor we biked again. The biking became quite a challenge as the bkes were too small, the butt began hurting and of course it was damn hot.

But still a great time and amazing things to see

Angkor (Siem Reap), Cambodia - Day 2

On the second day at Angkor (we had a 3 day ticket) we rented bikes to be more flexible.

The biggest and most famous temple, Angkor Wat.

Notice the monster pig at the tree. Not to be mistakened for Oli.

Refreshing coconut after all this bicycling.

That day Juliane had the camera.

Angkor (Siem Reap), Cambodia - Day 1

On the first day at the Angkor temples we hired a Tuk Tuk driver as we planned to see temples further away.

Here are some of the pictures we took

Siem Reap, Cambodia

The first day in Siem Reap we walked around the city. We had a brewed coffee - not easy to get!

Also had nice Khmer food at the market and walked along the river. A nice town.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Day 2

And they even showed us a traditional Cambodian dance in the end.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Day 2

On the second day we hired a Tuk Tuk to get around more easily because we planned to see a lot of things.

We started with seeing the Killing Fields. The picture below shows the Memorial Charnel with around 8000 skulls in it from the surrounding mass graves.

After that we saw the Tuol Sleng museum, which was a jail under the Khmer Rouge regime. There were also pictures of the Cambodian people who were killed in that prison - tough visit.
We also visited the national museum. The exhibits were not too fascinating but it had a very nice court yard.

The last thing that day was our visit at an orphanage (Waisenhaus/boernehjem). It was nothing we really had planned from the start but after talking with our Tuk Tuk driver and seeing so many poor people it seemed like a good idea. On our way there we bought a 50 kg bag of rice and some footballs. It turned out to be a very intense experience which we will not forget.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Day 1

After some days in Bangkok we arrived in Phnom Penh on 12.12.2006.
Here are some pictures from our first day walking around in the city.

Koh Phi Phi, Krabi, Thailand

After having heard a lot about the two Phi Phi Islands, we very very much looking forward to experiencing this place ourselves. Staying there and getting around is a bit more expensive than in most other places in Thailand, but once arrived the view let us know why. Again we were lucky with the place we stayed. Phi Phi Hill Resorts was both one of the cheapest places and probably the one with the best view.

Another reason for getting to Koh Phi Phi is of course the tribute to my sister and her lovely daughter Maya, named after the famous Maya Bay on Phi Phi Lay. Besides this bay we saw other bays and beaches around that area on a snorkeling trip

Koh Jam, Krabi, Thailand

After some very nice days on Koh Lanta we decided to spend some t9ime on the little island Koh Jam, which is situated between Krabi Town and Koh Lanta.
Not a lot of tourists, wooden bungalows, no electricity.
It is a very nice and calm place far away from civilisation.

But there are also some pretty nasty animals around...

On the third day we decided to leave this place after having had a night with not a lot of sleep. Rats seemed to have found there way in our bungalow. We caught the ferry to get to Koh Phi Phi and were very much looking forward to seeing this place.

Koh Lanta, Krabi, Thailand

It has been already a week now on Koh Lanta. Although our original plan was to go to Koh Phi Phi, we are glad we ended up here. It is not as touristic as Koh Phi Phi or Phuket and seems to have kept its special touch (so far).
We stayed at a nice place called Marine Park View and had a bungalow in the hills with a really nice view over the bay.

The first days were all about relaxing, being at the beach, reading books etc.
We also have been diving. Juliane took her PADI Open Water Diver course and Oliver was just fun diving. They have nice dive spots, but not as good as at the Red Sea.

Following, the spot were we both dived - Koh Haa lagoon.

Tomorrow we will leave Koh Lanta behind and have a few more island days on Koh Jam. There will be no electricity, but it is supposed to have beautiful white sand beaches and a real Robinson Crusoe feeling - we will keep you posted!
